Forty-five Rammorians on the Do’arth, until now, the last of their race.

Morvina turned to the stumpy triped, Troikan. ‘Any initial thoughts, Koopper?’

The Troikan interlinked her chubby fingers, resting them against her jowly face, and in a deep monotone began a monologue of her initial thoughts. Her race, or what remained of it, had amazing analytical brains, with an awareness of the abnormal others wouldn’t notice. She also hated being interrupted.

Stanza De-Lay-Brandon, waved everyone to be quiet, expecting great things from the Troikan. Morvina regarded the Gargan with some disdain. He had no mandate to be on this mission, having no previous connection with the Zerot, and now here he was, directing everyone. But Countess Bor was desperate to get him away from Residuum, and Morvina had consented to her old friend’s request.

‘Just another planet, so it seems, and one without an indigenous population. But I doubt that was always the case. Closer inspection will reveal the remnants of a long-dead civilisation. An early conquest of the Zerot, I would surmise, because of its proximity to the Enif system.’ She stood barely higher than Morvina’s waist, her three legs forming a sturdy base. ‘We know they only mine precious minerals and ores, and you can bet they have protection from prying eyes. Space mines, surface-to-space missiles and aggressive aerial shielding are my best guesses for now. We need to wait for a vessel to pass to or from the planet’s surface, and watch for clues.’ Koopper’s only movement was the soft swaying of her jowls as she talked. ‘We can fool the defences, but the hardest part will be the infiltration of the mining settlement. We need to send one of our Z34a friends first, to deactivate the five of their kind. Z34aNog assures us he can manually override the control routines installed by the Zerot and activate their fourth processor.’ Koopper turned a full circle, making eye contact with each individual in turn, her three feet making her pirouette seamless and perfectly smooth. ‘So, now we wait, study the movements of the mining vessels, and plan our strategy.’
